I decided to purchase a bike on a whim. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive… simple. The basket was an addition so I can carry around my water, phone, keys, etc… I am on the look out for some handle bar streamers that will match the bike’s paint color. Just looking at it makes me happy and I’m sure we will have plenty of lovely strolls through the parks this summer.

Speaking of summer… I have a brown thumb, every plant I have own and tried to care for has perished. My dad got this meyer lemon tree for me as a gift and it is doing nicely. I have named her Bianca and she has already started to bud new leaves and I think she will bare fruit in a few years. Right now I am scoping out the yard to find a permanent spot to plant her, once she’s in the grown she isn’t coming out so I want to be sure I find the perfect spot.

Things have been happening and I have been preoccupied, apologies. In my little world of crochet I have been making things left and right but my favorite thing at the moment is making these little octopi. The first one I made was adopted by Tarah and Chris, they have named her Octavia and she is loving her new home. She took her trip overseas in the first class section of a cardboard box and arrived safely in about a week even with all that volcanic ash holding things up.

Congrats to barksmommy winner of the bunny giveaway.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Easter holiday. In the spirit of things I am having a giveaway, just leave a comment and you will be entered. A winner will be selected via random.org in the next few days.

I have been posting for a while and I wish I could say I have been off doing important and exciting things but that would be a lie. The most thrilling thing that has happened was the purchase and building of this cabinet from ikea. I’ve been look everyone for some piece of storage furniture without spending a bagillion dollars, I checked thrift stores, scratch n dent, and consignment shops with no luck. I am picky, not just a little picky but extremely picky so the task was almost impossible. On a random trip to ikea to get a $5 strainer I came home with this baby, I am totally digging the antique yellow

I’m slowly moving my fabrics into it so they can stay nice and dust free. The cabinet is pretty deep and spacious and I should be able to fit everything into it nicely.

Chicken Cacciatore that is and it was amazing. Yum, Yum, double yum! It has been warming up here in Florida but I really felt like something hearty for dinner and this really hit the spot. I cooked it on the stove for about 4 hours so all the chicken was tender, moist, and delicious. Now I am stuffed and not motivated to do anything even though I have a few pouches and pincushions I wanted to get completed by the end of the weekend. I am trying to raise money for an american cancer society fund raiser some of us at work are participating in. Last year we did the american heart association and raised $400, I baked over 60 cupcakes for that one. This time I decided to try something different and sell some crafty things, hopefully I can get them listed on etsy by tomorrow. Stay tuned if you are interested.

Yesterday was the Habitat for Humanity build I volunteered for. The house was being built for a couple and their four children who are currently living in a small two bedroom apartment. The day started off bright and early at 8am and I was surprised to see so many people just show up on the site. I think maybe the free disney tickets for the give a day, get a day program may have contributed to the turn out. The site manager had to turn away all the people that showed up un-registered. Too many individuals on a job site can be dangerous and there is a process and waivers that need to be signed prior to volunteering. Overall I would have to say it was a great experience that will help a family out and I would gladly do it again in the future.

This is the front of the house. That morning there were a couple people that went on the roof to finish putting up a couple remaining shingles. While we were there some “professionals” were inside hanging the drywall.

Our group spent the entire time setting up the frame work for the driveway and sidewalk so the concrete could be poured. There was a lot of wood and stakes that needed to be pounded into the ground. Lots of measuring, leveling, taking apart and redoing went on that day.

One of my main jobs was to dig out the round thing the level is resting on which went down about 2 1/2 feet and raise it about 6 inches, the same with the larger rectangle box you see in the photo above (after the task was complete). The round thing was the main water line for the entire neighborhood. One wrong smack with the shovel and there could have been a lot of angry people.

My scale and I had a conversation this morning and lucky for it I like what was said. I’m down 5 pounds and slowly working on losing 10 more. Unfortunately I have one weakness and it is icecream and gelato. This specific one is my ultimate favorite. I just had to stop myself from licking the monitor, that’s how freaking delicious it is.

The latest additions to my collection of fabrics. I haven’t decided on what I am going to do with them but they are lovely to look at for now
